Intake Coordinator
Community Services Advocate

Robbie Thomas Bunting was born and raised in one of the nation’s leading health care hubs, where he developed a deep passion for services that aid others. Growing up in East Baltimore, he was exposed to a variety of programs designed to support people in need. Educated in the Baltimore City Public School system, Robbie built a strong foundation that prepared him academically while also connecting him with mentors who opened doors to opportunities not visible to many. Active in sports during his youth, he experienced injuries that required him to rely on the care of others, which further shaped his commitment to service.

Robbie later graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Services. Initially drawn to physical therapy after accompanying a family member through weeks of treatment sessions, he soon discovered new opportunities through the guidance of advisors and professionals at UMES.

After college, Robbie returned to Baltimore and entered the social services sector, where he worked for several years. He often served as the face and voice of his organization at community events, especially within the TANF Block Grant Programs, and received numerous awards and recognition for his dedication to serving those in need. When shifts in government law and program restructuring occurred, Robbie pursued new opportunities and, in 2007, began working with children through Virginia’s mental health programs.

In Virginia, Robbie flourished as a school- and home-based counselor, marking his first experience serving children. Inspired to create additional resources, he founded Youth Enrichment Services in 2012, providing tutoring and academic support for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. He also helped establish a successful mental health services provider serving the Eastern Shore, Southeast, and Northern Virginia. His community involvement expanded as well: he joined Shiloh Baptist Church in 2013, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission in 2014, and began serving as an Election Official for Accomack County in 2016—positions he continues to hold today.

Robbie’s career gradually grew beyond children’s services, focusing more broadly on rehabilitation and disability services. He became recognized as a facilitator, organizer, and leader in Maryland, serving as an Intensive Outpatient Program Supervisor and Parent Mentoring Initiative Program Manager across multiple agencies. During this time, he obtained extensive training and certifications, including ASIST suicide prevention and crisis response specialist, DLA-20 Assessment Specialist, and Mobile Crisis Specialist. His leadership extended into the community, where he served as President of the Board of Directors for the P.A.L.A. afterschool and summer programs.

In 2023, Robbie returned to the Eastern Shore of Virginia to advance his work in rehabilitation and disability services. He joined the Eastern Shore Center for Independent Living (ESCIL), where he currently serves as Intake Coordinator and Community Services Advocate. In this role, he also serves as an Accessibility Agent for Virginia Housing, helping facilitate home modification grants for ESCIL participants. He proudly conducts all consumer intakes, ensuring that individuals entering or re-entering ESCIL receive the support and advocacy they need.

Robbie is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration at the University of Maryland Global Campus, with an expected graduation in 2027. Through his education, professional expertise, and lifelong commitment to service, Robbie Thomas Bunting remains dedicated to advancing advocacy for individuals in need and strengthening the communities he serves.
